We may only be a few weeks into 2012, but Steve Aoki’s label Dim Mak hasn’t wasted any time signing a bunch of big artists for the new year.
ITM spoke to the Los Angeles DJ yesterday and was he happy to report that there’s no shortage of projects in the pipeline for Dim Mak. First up? “We’ve signed our first dubstep artist Datsik, which I’m thrilled about,” Aoki told inthemix. Datsik is set to release his debut album, titled Vitamin D, on the label sometime this year – and the release comes complete with collaborations from none other than self-proclaimed dubstep innovator Jonathan Davis of Korn, as well as an inclusion from psy-trance duo Infected Mushroom.
Datsik’s album isn’t the only work Infected Mushroom’s done with Dim Mak – they, too, have signed to the label and will be releasing an album with them this year, the verbosely-titled U R So F*cked (censored!). The forthcoming album has “defined this new sound for Infected,” Aoki gushed. “Which is incredible, it’s an incredible album.”
Dim Mak devotees can also look forward to a collaboration between Aoki and Pendulum side-project Knife Party, to be released “sometime this year”. What else does the future hold for the label? “We’ve been around for 15 years so we’re constantly evolving, constantly bringing in new sounds and new artists to deliver it,” Aoki explained.
“The Bloody Beetroots second album is coming out, my album just dropped and we have tonnes of great releases – EPs and singles, like me and Tiesto’s record Tornado, the vocal version of that is coming out soon.”
Busy year, then!
We hope to be able to report a lot more about Steve Aoki and Dim Mak Records in this and the next years. Keep an eye on Steve Aoki’s artist page for an aggregation of all content related to him and Dim Mak.
